Ides 92: Group of Season's Greetings
Founders of Canada's first art movement the Group of Seven are widely considered to be the masters of Canadian landscape art. Their work adorns public buildings, currency, and dorm rooms across the country.
Though they all had successful careers in fine art, they also applied their skills in commercial work and printmaking, making simple, easy-to-reproduce art. And so, each year, many in the group would create their own Christmas cards with original art to send to friends and family.
Dozens of cards were produced over the years using traditional wood block press or silk-screen. And while a signed card from A.J. Casson might have been lovely to receive in the post in 1940, it would be a treasure today.
